Gabriel and Florence with his mum and Lawrence Cho
Gabriel graduated from Guys Hospital in 1958 and began working in a dental practice in Forest Gate, London. He made a trip back to Malaysia together with his mother in 1960 for about 3 months to see to his Grandmother who was ill.
The highlight of Gabriel’s adulthood, as I’m sure he’ll agree, was his marriage to Florence Pik Kuin Chin on 23rd March, 1962. They met during a mahjong game, (of all things!), whilst Florence was visiting her sister, also a dentist, in London. Romance blossomed and Florence made arrangements to pursue her career in Social Sciences in the UK.
They married at Kensington Registry Office followed by a lavish reception at the Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant on Shaftesbury Avenue, London attended by many friends and colleagues.
